I just received this in the mail and am slightly disappointed at the presentation of this. Meant to be a companion to the D23 2019 exhibit (which I did not have a chance to attend), the book opens with a brief summary of costumes as used in the Disney company, then breaks into chapters to somewhat organize the costumes into sections. Puzzlingly, the table of contents is placed after a chapter of the book and feels a bit like an afterthought, with the various costumes not detailed by chapter.Within each chapter, the costumes are presented in sections by costume/film, featuring one high quality photo of the overall garment that is accompanied by a paragraph of anecdotes about the costume. Most of the sections containing one garment do have one additional close-up photo of the garment, but only of to highlight a detailed piece of work such as the sleeves. Additionally, each section has a blurb about the costume designer's history or previous work.Unfortunately, the book falls short with the amount of information given about the actual costume shown. The small blurb about the featured costume skims the surface about the construction and fabrics used for the costume. Instead of information about the designer's history, the space would have been put to better use featuring more detailed photos about the actual research done for each of the garments, in-progress photos, movie stills, or even more photos of the garments.
